Our history

For nearly 170 years, James A Marshall has helped manufacturers present their materials exactly as they are meant to be experienced. Founded in 1856 in Glasgow’s Candleriggs district, the company began by producing pattern cards for the textile trade, allowing colour, texture and quality to be shown with accuracy and consistency.

Specialist machinery

Over time the business built a reputation for reliability, precision and careful workmanship, with knowledge passed from one generation to the next. Production expanded throughout the twentieth century, including a move to a purpose-built factory in Bridgeton in 1973, where specialist machinery and skilled hand-finishing remain central to the process.

Some equipment dates back decades, maintained and operated by experienced staff who understand that precision comes not only from the machine, but from the people using it.
